The Time for Me project provides support for children and young people who are affected by substance misuse at home. Support is offered to young people via one-to-one and group sessions.
Time for Me works towards the following objectives:
to provide an opportunity for members to enjoy being young and to take part in social and leisure activities that other young people take for granted
to enable young people to learn new skills that will equip them to care for themselves and increase their self confidence, including cooking / nutrition, health and safety, personal hygiene, needlework, physical exercise, first aid and safety in the home including fire safety
to provide an opportunity for members to discuss some of their concerns e.g. of coming in from school to find a parent collapsed through excessive drinking
to help members to look at their understanding of alcohol misuse and the affects of this on them and their families, through games and activities and through shared experiences
to provide specific information and advice on substance misuse and how to stay safe
to explore peer pressure and how it impacts on children and young people.
Time For Me is the only project in its locality that offers support to young people who are faced with major issues at home around substance misuse - predominately alcohol - and who are experiencing situations that put them at risk and are a danger to their health and well being. Some of the young people attending Time For Me take on the main caring role at home looking after their parents, and at times also caring for younger siblings.
